How the round robin generator works

Four steps from a list of names to a finished round robin schedule.

1

Add your players or teams

Type names one by one or paste a whole list at once. Choose singles, doubles or mixed doubles, and drag to rearrange who is paired with whom.

2

Enter your courts

Add every court, field or table you have available. The round robin generator spreads each round across them so no player is double-booked and no court sits idle.

3

Set dates and rules

Running a league over several nights? Spread the round robin across multiple days, mark who cannot play on which day, and stop specific players from being drawn against each other.

4

Generate your round robin schedule

Get the complete schedule instantly, round by round. Track scores as you play, then print the schedule or save it as a PDF to hand out.

What this round robin generator does for you

Most free round robin generators only print a rotation. This one schedules the whole event.

Everyone plays everyone

The classic circle method guarantees every player or team meets every other one exactly once, so nobody is left out and nobody plays the same opponent twice.

Byes handled automatically

With an odd number of entrants somebody has to sit out each round. The generator rotates the bye so it lands on a different player every round, never the same person twice.

Matches assigned to courts

Tell it how many courts you have and each round is packed onto them automatically. This is the part most free round robin generators leave you to work out on paper.

Singles, doubles and mixed

Run a round robin for individual players, fixed doubles pairs, or mixed doubles where each team is one man and one woman. Teams are treated as a single entrant in the draw.

Score tracking as you play

Tap a match to record the score as it finishes and everything is saved in your browser as you go. Rename a player mid-event without losing a single result.

Multi-day round robins

League night every Tuesday? Spread a round robin across up to 31 days and matches will only land on days when the players involved are actually available.

Cap the number of rounds

Short on court time? Limit how many games each entrant plays and the generator takes whole rounds off the schedule, so everyone still plays the same number of matches.

Free, private and printable

No account, no download, no team limit. The generator runs entirely in your browser, your player list never leaves your device, and the schedule prints cleanly on paper.

What is a round robin?

A round robin is a tournament format in which every entrant plays every other entrant. There are no eliminations, so a bad first match does not end anyone's day and every player is guaranteed the same number of games. That is what makes it the standard format for club nights, social play, leagues and group stages.

With an even number of entrants a round robin takes N minus 1 rounds for N entrants: eight players need seven rounds, and each round has four matches running at once. With an odd number of entrants it takes N rounds, because one entrant sits out a bye each round. If everyone plays everyone twice it is called a double round robin, the format most football and basketball leagues use for a home and away season.

Working that out by hand is where it gets painful. The rotation itself follows the circle method: fix one entrant in place and rotate the rest around them, and every pairing comes out exactly once. Fitting those matches onto a limited number of courts, across several days, while avoiding the players who cannot make Thursday, is the part that eats an organizer's evening. That is exactly what this round robin generator does for you.

Round robin or knockout bracket?

Which format fits the event you are running.

Choose a round robin when

  • You want everyone to get the same number of games
  • It is social play, a club night or a league season
  • You have the court time for every pairing to happen
  • You want a final table rather than a single winner

Choose a knockout bracket when

  • You need one champion by the end of the day
  • Court time is tight and games must halve each round
  • Entrants are seeded and you want the best to meet last
  • You are running the finals stage after a group phase
